In a recent interview, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel claimed that club-record signing Romelu Lukaku continues to look “very motivated” and “very strong” in training. The star striker has not started a league game since February.

Romelu Lukaku rejoined the European champions in the summer for a club-record fee. The Belgium star helped Inter Milan to the Serie A title last term. But a call to rejoin his former side was too much for the striker to turn down. Lukaku claimed that he had ‘unfinished business’ at Stamford Bridge after his first stint at the club didn’t quite work out.

Big things were expected of the €115 million man. But things have not gone quite as planned. Lukaku has failed to impress the Chelsea faithful. He has also lost his place in the starting lineup to Kai Havertz in recent weeks. While his interview with Sky Italia only made the situation worse for all parties involved.

Lukaku has made a total of 35 appearances in all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded 12 goals and two assists across all competitions this term. (stats via Transfermarkt)

What did Thomas Tuchel say about Romelu Lukaku?

Talking during his press conference about the blue’s training and Romelu Lukau, Thomas Tuchel said:

“I feel him very motivated, very strong in training, very much involved when we do the games. He is a winner and he will stay a winner and stay important with us,”

“There are a lot of matches in the decisive weeks of the season. That’s why there is no space now for second thoughts, being distracted or disappointed. We need everybody, every player and that includes Romelu.”

Is Lukaku set to rejoin Inter Milan in the summer?

According to Calciomercato, Romelu Lukaku looks set to rejoin his former side Inter Milan in the summer. The Italian giants can’t afford to pay the sort of fee Chelsea paid for the forward. Reports suggest that the club are looking to sign the forward on loan in the summer.

Lukaku would be open to a move to his former side. While the Inter Milan faithful have made it clear that they have no interest in the forward’s return to the club. Both Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Conte left the Italian side as the club faced financial trouble. The club signed Edin Džeko to replace the Belgium striker. The veteran striker has done very well to fill in the boots of the Belgium striker.
