Thomas Tuchel worried about increasing Chelsea injuries

Thomas Tuchel has a growing concern with the injuries he is facing at Chelsea. The Blues are facing several injuries and the COVID outbreak is not helping his team either. Moreover, the players who are returning from injuries are forced to play more than the advised number of minutes.

Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante were forced off through injury against Aston Villa. Moreover, both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Romelu Lukaku had to play more than advised after recovering from coronavirus. In addition, Chelsea are also facing fixture congestion which will only add fuel to the fire.

The league rejected Chelsea’s request to postpone their game against Wolves. As a result, the Blues had to take away a draw in that game. Thomas Tuchel is getting more and more frustrated as the matchweek goes. This is because Chelsea are losing crucial points because of the injury crisis. Tuchel had this to say to Sky Sports about the injury crisis,

“We have another injured player. We play against a team with no international duty. At some stage it’ll catch us. We play two more cup games. We play against teams with games postponed. This cannot be the right way.”

“Not enough changes for us. Five subs was invented because of Coronavirus. Europe has a winter break but we play through and put it on the players’ shoulders. They make us play all the time even if we have Covid. We have new injuries and it won’t stop. People at the green table, in offices make these decisions.”

It’s not fair today. He [Lukaku] had a very good performance. He’s not ready for that even if he wants it. We’ve all been in bed for 10 days with flu. He was a game changer today. I’m super impressed with the guys but I’m super concerned.

Why Thomas Tuchel’s frustration towards Chelsea’s injuries is justified?

Chelsea are one of the title contenders this season. However, the injuries have taken down all of their depth in the squad. Moreover, the coronavirus outbreak has caused even more problems regarding the match fitness of players. Many players have to play more than they are advised as there are many injuries and not sufficient players on the bench. This problem can be the root cause for Chelsea not winning the title this season.

The league had also rejected Chelsea’s request to postpone their game against the Wolves. As a result, the Blues had to settle for a draw in an uneventful match. Chelsea players are not getting the proper rest that they need resulting in them losing very crucial points in the title race.

Very few managers in the world would not get frustrated over this situation. The Premier League should cut Chelsea some slack after all the injuries they have faced. Many other clubs matches got postponed and now have a fully fit squad. These teams will play against a tired Chelsea who are likely to not play at their best.

Chelsea have lost some ground in the title race and will find it hard to recover those lost points. To recover those points with a half squad is even tougher. The Blues were leading the league until they faced this injury crisis. Thomas Tuchel either has to find a way with the injuries or the league will have to do something about this situation sooner or later.
