Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has commented on the 2023 Mercedes Challenger W14 following the testing in Bahrain.
One can argue that Mercedes and porpoising became synonyms last year. The W13 was affected a lot due to the bouncing. The 2022 title challenge was a big disappointment for Lewis Hamilton too. The Briton failed to score even a single win in what many thought to be his season of revenge.
The bouncing was to be blamed for most of the problems last year for Mercedes. Regards, the Silver Arrows seemed to sort out the issue as the season progressed. Although their car was still not close to their rival Red bull still was miles ahead given where they started the season.
In 2023, Mercedes will again go with their zero sidepod design as they revealed the W14. The side has again bet on the design to perform this year.
Initial signs in testing indicate that the Brackley-based squad has solved the bouncing to a much greater extent now.
Further, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff also confirms this speculation on the brand-new W14. Wolff stated: “The porpoising is gone essentially yeah.”
Referring to the Wolff statement, David Croft called it “a big statement”.
Speculating from the reactions of the Mercedes side, one thing is for sure. The Silver Arrows are on a much better footing coming to the 2023 season.
Although there still might be some problems with their new challenger, one thing is for sure the side is looking in much better shape this year.
