Tottenham closing in on Adama: What can he add to Conte’s squad?

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are growing more and more optimistic about signing Wolves and Spain winger Adama Traore in the January transfer window.

Adama Traore is a player blessed with sheer pace and power. But he has failed to capitalize on his strengths this term and has failed to make any real impact for Wolves. The Spanish winger has made 21 appearances in all competitions this term. Bt he is still yet to register a single goal or assist for his side this term. (stats via Tranfermarkt)

Spurs have been scouting Traore for some time now. The London outfit tried to sign the winger in the summer but the deal fell through. Traore’s current contract runs until 2023 but the winger is reportedly looking for a move to a Champions League side. Reports also suggest that Wolves are looking for a fee of around £20m for the winger in January.

Adama Traore set for new role at Tottenham?

Traore could replace Lucas Moura in the starting line-up. But repost coming out of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium suggests that manager Antonio Conte is planning to use the Spaniard in the right wing-back role in the starting line-up.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have both featured in the right wing-back role for Antonio Conte, but have failed to convince Conte. Matt Doherty looks set for a move away from the club in the January transfer window. Adama has previously featured in the right wing-back role for Wolves in the previous seasons.

Tottenham may even use Matt Doherty as a part of the deal. Wolves are keen to sign their former player back and Doherty is also looking for a move away from Spurs. This would in turn, drive the transfer fee down and may work in both parties favour.

Bruno Lage’s verdicy on the Adama situation?

Furthermore, to add even more speculation, Wolves manager Bruno Lage recently revealed that selling Traore could be in Wolves’ best interests. He said:

“You are giving me something new. I don’t know anything about that, but what I said before I will say again.

“The most important thing, especially now, if it’s good for the club and it’s good for the player…

“The main thing is I’m happy with everyone.

“Just now I was asked about Morgan and I said I’m happy with Morgan because I’m happy with the four guys.

“I’m happy with Adama, I’m happy with Daniel, with Trincao, with Hwang and I’m available to receive players and not to see anyone go. But you never know.”
