Tottenham Hotspur keen on Weston McKennie: Perfect option for Antonio Conte?

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie for improving their midfield situation.

The Lilywhites were keen to bring in Weston McKennie in the summer, but the move did not quite materialise. The American midfielder was initially brought to Juventus by Pirlo. He had a very good start to his career at Juventus and went to make a good impression.

But Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri isn’t that keen on Weston McKennie as he has struggled to get game time under the new manager. The Italian boss prefers the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Manuel Locatelli over McKennie. However, the American midfielder is still very highly rated at the club.

With Antonio Conte’s arrival as the Spurs head coach, the club is now keen to sign the American all-action midfielder. Antonio Conte is looking to bring in new faces at Spurs in the January transfer window and has demanded Paratici for signing Weston McKennie.

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspurs scouts were present at Juventus vs Atalanta BC last weekend to scout the midfielder. Weston McKennie was withdrawn in the 64th minute after he picked up an injury.

Is Weston McKennie the perfect option for Antonio Conte?

Still just 23-year-old, Weston McKennie is one of the most talented young players in the world. He is known for his high-intensity game in the middle of the park and aggression. While his high-intensity game can complement the intensity of the Premier League.

Typically a center midfielder, McKennie can also play as a right midfielder. Following which he can fill in two positions in Antonio Conte’s system. He is also an excellent ball carrier and can be an excellent box-to-box player. While his versatility in the middle of the park is another plus point for Spurs and Conte.

Antonio Conte has a track record of improving young players and the most recent example of that is Nico Barella. Conte turned Barella from a decent young midfielder to one of the finest midfielders in the world. Spurs fans will be hoping he can do the same with Weston McKennie.

Tottenham Hotspur have at times looked a little bit lackluster in the middle of the park. Weston can slot into the Spurs midfield alongside Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and really sure up the midfield as well as add an attacking mindset.

The American all-action midfielder has made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants this season. Juventus are open to letting the midfielder go in January to bring in a good fee and boost their club finances at the start of 2022. The deal seems good for both parties as Juventus can get a decent transfer fee and Spurs will get the player they want. What remains to be seen is that whether Spurs can get the deal over the line.
