According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur have reignited the interest in Fiorentina center-half Nikola Milenkovic.

Antonio Conte, the new Spurs manager is on the lookout for new defensive recruitments and has identified Nikola Milenkovic as one of his targets. Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Milenkovic this summer. But, the Serbian center half decided to continue at Fiorentina, as he signed a new contract until 2023. However, Nikola has kept his options open by not committing to a long-term future with Fiorentina.

Juventus, Inter Milan, and West Ham United are also keeping tabs on Nikola Milenkovic, with his contract running until 2023. While Fiorentina might be thinking to sell the defender sooner than late with his contract running for two seasons.

Nikola Milenkovic reportedly signed the new contract after receiving guarantees from the Fiorentina board that he would be free to move next summer if a good offer came in for the defender. While Tottenham Hotspur could be looking to bring in the Serbian defender for a discounted price next summer.

Since making the move to Italy from Partizan in 2017, he has become a key member of Fiorentina’s starting lineup and the heart of their backline. Following which he has made 145 appearances for the Italian side.

Will Nikola Milenkovic be a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur?

Antonio Conte enjoyed massive success with Chelsea and Inter Milan with his preferred 5-3-2 formation. He won numerous trophies with both Chelsea and Inter Milan with his preferred formation. In his two matches as Spurs head coach, he has already moved to a back five, using Ben Davies as one of the center-backs. But Davies lacks the ability to compete in the air that Milenkovic can add to the Spurs backline.

It is quite clear to see why Conte wants to add Milenkovic to his backline. Nikola Milenkovic would add much-needed competition to Cristian Romero, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon, Davinson Sánchez, Eric Dier, and Ben Davies for a place in the starting lineup.

Milenkovic is very strong in the air and is well known for his scoring abilities from set plays. He would also add some much-needed height to the Spurs backline and act as a threat in both the boxes. While Nikola is also brilliant at reading the game and is highly praised for his interception skills. On paper, Nikola Milenkovic seems the perfect center half option for Tottenham Hotspur.
