Tottenham Hotspur will push for a new forward in the January transfer window: Correct decision by Conte?

Recent reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur will be in the January transfer window with a lookout for a new forward. The Lilywhites have identified a depleting issue in the attack, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min the only proper forward players.

Struggling to replace loanee Carlos Vinicius, Spurs now have Dane Scarlett as a potential replacement for their conventional duo. Nevertheless, the player is just 17-years-old and is obviously going to struggle for game time.

On the other hand, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have made appearances occasionally. However, without a proper squad depth, the team cannot hope to compete with a recent fixture pile-up. Therefore, manager Antonio Conte will want to target a striker and might even be ready to spend big.

Tottenham increasing complications

Spurs have been hit highly due to the emerging coronavirus cases. Multiple first-team players were infected by the virus and as a result, were left out of the first team squad for multiple games. As the cases kept increasing, postponements of matches started taking place, with Spurs having missed 3 Premier League fixtures.

With fixture pile-ups now at hand, the clubs will be forced to undergo heavy rotations to maintain the fitness of players. A lack of attacking cavalry means that a striker will be a top priority for the Spurs. Adding on to the issue, their talisman Harry Kane has had a tremendous dip in form this season. Last season’s Player of the Season and Golden Boot winner, Kane has been almost absent this time. The Englishman has only scored 2 league goals and provided one assist in 14 appearances.

On the other hand, Son has still been in the form of scoring the majority of the team’s goals. The South Korea international has 7 goals and 2 assists in 14 appearances. The 29-years-old winger has scored a goal in each of his last three PL fixtures. (stats via TRANSFERMRKT)

Tottenham Hotspur potential January transfer targets

Amongst all, Erling Haaland is the top choice target for all clubs. However, the Norwegian is untouchable by Spurs. Therefore, the North London outfit could hope to target another young prospect, Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbian has risen to glory after stunning performances for Fiorentina. In 22 appearances, the player has 18 goals and 3 assists for the Italian side. The 21-years-old striker’s contract will end next summer, hence he would be a hot pick in January for most clubs. (stats via TRANSFERMRKT)

Spurs can also test the waters for Raphinha, who has been a sensational winger for Leeds since their promotion to the English top-flight in 2020.
