Tottenham: Matt Doherty to miss the rest of the season

Matt Doherty has picked up an injury during the game against Aston Villa. The injury will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season. This is a blow to Tottenham as Doherty was in good form for the last couple of matches.

Tottenham took on Aston Villa on Saturday, April 9 away. Tottenham won the match 4-0 owing to a Son masterclass. The winger scored 3 times as he completed a hattrick against the Steven Gerrard led side.

The hattrick ensured that Tottenham stay in the top 4. Tottenham enjoy a 3 point lead over Arsenal however Arsenal do have a game in hand. This won’t matter much as Tottenham have a goal difference advantage of 19 over Arsenal’s measly 9.

Doherty’s Injury impact on Tottenham

Another incident that took place was Matt Doherty’s injury. Matt Doherty started the match after an impressive display against Newcastle United. In the 13th minute of the game, The 30 year old was subjected to a nasty challenger by Matty Cash near the touchline. The tackle left Doherty on the floor and was in visible pain for Tottenham. The challenge deserved a yellow card at the least however Cash evaded any kind of action from the officials.

Doherty tried to endure the pain and continue but was unable to do so. However Sergio Reguilon replaced in the 20th minute of the game. Doherty was seen after the game wearing brace on his right knee in Tottenham Dugout. According to reports, Doherty has fractured his Medical Collateral Ligament and is sidelined for a period up to 12 weeks.

This comes as a blow to Tottenham as they are battling hard for a Champions League spot. Although Tottenham need to find a way to replace Doherty or they might have to forfeit the top 4 to some other team.

Doherty will most likely miss the UEFA Nations League for Ireland scheduled in June as well.
