Tottenham might still sign a defender worth £25 million before the deadline, claims Mokbel

Tottenham Hotspur

Brennan Johnson and Ansu Fati have both been highly linked to Tottenham. However, there has been a noticeable absence of links to defenders in the recent talk about incoming moves at Spurs. In fact, most of the rumours have been regarding offensive players.

Not to mention, Tottenham could need a little defensive realignment. Fortunately, it appears as though assistance may be on the way.

Sami Mokbel claims that Tottenham has looked at this transfer deal quite a bit throughout the summer and that the prior links to Perr Schuurs do have some merit. Mokbel made these claims on Last Word on Spurs.

Schuurs to Tottenham might be a possibility

Mokbel revealed what he knows about the defender worth £25 million.

Mokbel said

“Yeah, I think Perr Schuurs has got legs and they have looked at that deal a lot over the summer. For some reason they haven’t pressed the button on that, but it will be interesting to see if Eric Dier goes out how Tottenham react to that situation. At the moment he doesn’t figure in the plans at all. If he goes out then they will need, in my opinion, to replace him.”

Schuurs was mentioned as one of Tottenham’s top center-back targets earlier this summer, but over the past several weeks, rumours linking the Torino star with a move to North London have subsided.

To strengthen his defence, Ange Postecoglou seeks to bring in another center-back. Furthermore, it comes as no surprise, given that Tottenham conceded 63 goals in the previous campaign. Tottenham will have a very strong backline at the start of this season if they can complete this transfer before the deadline. Schuurs would be an excellent choice as a depth player or as a starter for the north London side, which undoubtedly needs defensive reinforcements.

Tottenham may have a winner on their hands if we take into account the synergy he can develop with fellow Dutch U21 international Micky Van de Ven.
