Tottenham appears poised to make a bid for a seasoned attacker who could effectively replace Harry Kane, and the Premier League player seems inclined to choose Spurs over Chelsea, according to reports.

Kane wasted no time showcasing his talents at Bayern Munich. Making a significant impact with both a goal and an assist in his Bundesliga debut against Werder Bremen.

Despite Kane’s departure, the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou has brought an air of excitement to Tottenham with his brand of attacking football.

Richarlison has been tasked with leading the line in a post-Kane era. The Brazilian, however, has yet to record a goal or an assist this season. Although his relentless work rate creates opportunities for his teammates.

Many anticipated Tottenham signing a direct replacement for Kane in the form of a new center-forward. Nevertheless, Postecoglou suggested that Spurs might have a different approach.

As quoted by Football London, Postecoglou hinted that a like-for-like replacement may not be their primary focus. He stated, “Not necessarily. I know that’s the obvious place people look at because of recent outgoings. But we’d been planning for that for a while. There’s still areas we can strengthen in all our lines: defensively, midfield, up front.”

Now, according to reports from the Evening Standard and Daily Mail. Brennan Johnson is the player Tottenham is eyeing to fill Kane’s shoes in the forward line.

Johnson, a 22-year-old Nottingham Forest talent, is reportedly valued at around £50 million and is also admired by Chelsea. However, according to the Mail, Johnson would prefer a move to Tottenham if he were to leave Forest.

The report suggests that the amount of playing time he’d receive is a major factor in Johnson’s preference for Spurs over Chelsea.

As a result, Chelsea’s reported plans to loan Andrey Santos to Forest to sweeten the deal for Johnson seem unlikely to succeed.

Furthermore, the Evening Standard indicates that Tottenham is ready to make an offer for Johnson. They state that “Tottenham is expected to make a bid” for the attacker, pending a reduction in the size of their squad.

While Jonathan David, Gift Orban, and Mehdi Taremi have also been linked with Spurs. It appears that a move for Johnson is now a top priority.

Adding to the speculation is Football London’s Alasdair Gold, who commented on Johnson’s situation via his YouTube channel: “He’s got loads of admirers at Tottenham. He will certainly cost more than Gift Orban and again probably plays more out wide but can play centrally. Keep an eye on Brennan Johnson links as well. I know [Fabio] Paratici was a big fan of his as well. Obviously still involved in his consultancy role at Spurs.”

Johnson had an impressive Premier League season last year. Scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
