Tottenham Hotspur looks to build upon a good run of form as they host Newcastle United next in the league. Spurs are firm challengers for a top-four finish and can go forth with a win here. Newcastle are enjoying their best phase in the league since Eddie Howe’s appointment. Though back-to-back defeats were suffered, Newcastle have shown their ability of resilience and will be hoping to bounce back.

Tottenham sits fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal who have a game in hand. Conte’s men are in some stellar form, having dealt just 2 defeats in the last 7 league games. Moreover, after some tiff between Conte and the Tottenham board, the team looks unaffected on the pitch. Tottenham have picked 12 points from a possible 15 from their last 5 games, pipping top four challengers West Ham and Manchester United in the process.

Tottenham vs Newcastle: Team News

Spurs’ team news

Japhet Tanganga is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Ryan Sessegnon was expected back post the international break from a muscle injury. However, it looks like the left-back is yet to recover and miss this home game. Oliver Skipp is ruled out for this game as well with a groin injury.

In a minor scare, Ben Davies sustained muscle tightness while on international duty with Wale. But it didn’t look that serious and could start against Newcastle. Bentancur is in fine form, and could again start alongside Hojberg who provided an assist with Denmark during the international fixtures.

Tottenham possible starting line-up:

Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Doherty, Bentancur, Hojberg, Reguilon; Kulusevski, Kane, Son Heung-Min

The Magpies’ team news

Newcastle have a long list of outs and doubts for the Tottenham game. Callum Wilson is out due to calf injury and Kieran Trippier is nursing a metatarsal fracture. Ciaran Clark and Isaac Hayden will also miss the trip due to injuries.

Fabian Schar is a doubt due to adductor problems. Howe will be sweating on the availability of Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Dubravka and Federico Fernandez who picked up minor knocks. Meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes could start despite playing full 90 minutes with Brazil during the midweek. Record breaker Kiwi Chris Wood is back as well and will lead the attack.

Newcastle possible starting line-up:

Dubravka; Krafth; Schar; Dan Burn; Matt Targett; Willock, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Chris Wood, Saint-Maximin

Our Prediction

Tottenham 1-1 Newcastle

Though Tottenham may seem favourites on the paper, Newcastle are not going to give-up in their current form. Eddie Howe‘s side would have been dreaming of a win. But Tottenham have improved defensively as well as offensively. Spurs have scored a massive 16 goals in last five league games, but Newcastle have conceded just 4 in their last five. A share of spoils in on the cards at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
