Transfer news: Chelsea target Unai Simon as Kepa replacement

Chelsea Football Club have been struggling from the start of this season in the Premier League. After the departure of their number one goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, The Blues signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton to fill his position. But, after a series of poor performances, Chelsea might be looking for a better option for that role. One of their main targets is Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon.

After the long term absence due to injury of their number one goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid signed Kepa from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal. It is believed that Kepa would remain in the Spanish capital and sign a permanent deal rather than return to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea target Unai Simon

Unai Simon, who currently plays for La Liga side Athletic Bilbao, is rumored to be Chelsea’s top target. Signs are clear that The Blues are not confident in Robert Sanchez after a run of poor performances. On the other hand, Unai Simon has put up some good performances this season in La Liga. Therefore, Chelsea are now looking up to him as their long term replacement for Kepa.

At this point, it is unclear whether Athletic would consider losing the goalkeeper and, even if they were, how much it would take the Blues to get him away from the Spanish side.

It seems likely that Boehly and his board will put in full effort to make the deal happen if it can be done while complying to Financial Fair Play standards and if Mauricio Pochettino shows a desire to bring the player in.

Chelsea’s Premier League season so far

Chelsea have only won 3 of their first 10 games in the Premier League. This is one of the worst starts of the season for The Blues. Even after signing big names like Christopher Nkunku, Moises Caicedo etc. their situation has not improved. Chelsea currently sit at the 10th position in the Premier League with 12 points in 10 games.
