Recently the BCCI appointed VVS Laxman as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Now BCCI is eying to appoint Troy Cooley as the fast bowling coach. The likes of Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Shiv Sunder Das and Sitanshu Kotak are also going to be selected as the new batting coaches at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, former Indian leg spinner Sairaj Bahutule will be the spin bowling coach of the academy. Cooley is one of the best fast bowling coaches out there. He will be appointed to nurture the upcoming fast bowling generation. Cooley was the bowling coach of England in the 2005 Ashes series. The English bowlers became a nightmare for the Australian batsmen.

The success of the bowling was created by Cooley as he coached the likes of Andrew Flintoff, Matthew Hoggard, Dimon Jones and Steve Harmison. After his success with the England team, the very next year he was appointed by Cricket Australia to be their bowling coach. He worked with the Australian national team till the 2010-11 season.

“I would say one of the biggest successes for both Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah is to convince Troy Cooley to work with India’s next batch of pacers at the National Cricket Academy,”

said a senior BCCI official. It is reported that a 3-year contract was offered to Cooley. He will work in close coordination with VVS Laxman. The upcoming years are going to be very important. Certainly, we can see some great fast bowlers from India in a few years

Contracts for young Pacers

It has been reported that the BCCI is working on providing contracts to young fast bowlers. This step is taken based on preparing the next batch of world-class fast bowlers for the team. It is named ‘Exclusive Young Pacers Contract‘.

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah, new Indian head coach Rahul Dravid, and NCA’s new head VVS Laxman are trying to put a contract only for the fast bowlers. It will be a different contract from that of the central contract for the players. As it will only have young fast bowlers who have potential to be great.

Both Laxman and Troy Cooley are going to take the task of selecting ten fast bowlers, who are unrecognized & young and still under the central contract. The junior and the first-class teams will be also scouted for these players. After that, they will be offered BCCI’s Exclusive ‘Fast Bowlers Contract‘.

After that, both the Indian head coach and NCA head Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman will monitor their progress. Then after the next steps will be taken and they will be promoted to play for the A team and even the National Team.

New batting coaches as well for NCA

New batting coaches have also been appointed for NCA. Kantikar, Das and Kotak are given the role of batting coach. Kotak is going to travel with the India A side for the upcoming test matches in South Africa.

Moreover, three fielding coaches have also been assigned. Subhadeep Ghosh, T Dilip and Munish Bali are the three who are going to be in charge of the fielding. Dilip is currently with the men’s national team for their series against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Ghosh is scheduled to travel with India A team to South Africa. Bali will be with the U19 men’s team.

The actions taken by the BCCI are really good and for sure will help in the growth of Indian Cricket. This will also bring lime light to some hidden gems. In the coming years Indian cricket team will be a force to reckon with.
