Unai Emery eyeing reunion with Arsenal full-back Keiran Tierney

Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery wants to sign Arsenal defender Keiran Tierney in the upcoming summer transfer window, as per reports.

Back in 2019, Emery signed the full-back when he was incharge at the Emirates. But Tierney only played nine times under the Spaniard due to injury.

Now, according to The Times, Unai Emery is eyeing a reunion with Tierney’s future up in the air at Arsenal. The Scottish defender feels homesick and might leave Emirates in the summer.

Tierney signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal in 2021. But under current circumstances, he will leave the club before the start of the next season.

The 25-year-old is one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League, but he doesn’t fit into Mikel Arteta’s style of play right now. The manager prefers Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is deployed as an inverted full-back.

With limited game time this season, Tierney is on his way out of the North London Club this summer. Hence, Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a move to sign him in the summer.

However, Villa will face tough competition from Newcastle United for Tierney’s signature this summer. The Magpies have more financial resources and they are also in Champions League as well.

Tierney is a fantastic full-back who is solid defensively and can also contribute at the other end of the pitch. He deserves to start every game for Arsenal but unfortunately Zinchenko has been exceptional.

Unai Emery can sign Tierney this summer, but it is only possible when they meet Arsenal’s demand.
