Viacom18 seizes a five-year deal to broadcast all Indian cricket games, beating Disney Star and Sony Sports. The Viacom 18 network already has digital rights for the most prestigious league tournament, the Indian Premier League(Ipl). In addition, it exclusively owns broadcasting rights for the Women’s Premier League(Wpl).

VIACOM18 BEATS DISNEY STAR AND SONY SPORTS

Disney Star, Sony Sports, and Viacom18 were the three attendees at the auction held in Mumbai on August 31st, 2023. Out of which, Viacom18 company won the TV and digital rights for all Indian home cricket matches for five years(2023-2028).

Viacom18 cracked the deal to acquire all TV and digital rights for approximately INR 5,983 crore for the 5-year cycle. For the next 5-years, all Indian home cricket matches will be available on the Viacom18 network.

Jio Cinema, owned by Viacom18 network, will now broadcast all the Indian matches on its app, website, and TV. Previously, Disney+Hotstar was the digital partner to live stream all Indian cricket matches, including IPL, on its app.

In addition, Star Sports network was the broadcasting partner to air all the cricket matches on television. Disney Star owned the TV and digital rights by winning media rights for INR 6,138 crores.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah posted on X( previously known as twitter). He stated

Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the @BCCI Media Rights for both linear and digital for the next 5 years. India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after @IPL, and @wplt20, we extend the partnership @BCCI Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of cricket fans

Jay Shah further stated
