Victor Osimhen: Napoli Triumphs Amidst Premier League Interest

In a resounding victory for Serie A champions Napoli, Victor Osimhen has committed his future to Napoli until 2026.

Saturday’s announcement ends speculation, tying Osimhen to Napoli and dispelling links to the Premier League’s top clubs.

Napoli declared the extension on social media, sharing an image of Osimhen signing the deal alongside club owner Aurelio Laurentiis

This move comes on the heels of Osimhen’s remarkable contribution last season, where his 26 league goals and five assists played a pivotal role in Napoli clinching their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The decision to extend Osimhen’s contract reflects Napoli’s approach in securing key players amid persistent interest from wealthier English clubs.

The club’s commitment to retaining Osimhen is a clear statement of intent as they aim to build on their recent success and establish themselves as a force in European football.

Osimhen’s new contract details

Fabrizio Romano shed light on the financial aspects of the deal. He revealed that Osimhen’s salary will see a substantial increase to €10 million (£8.6 million) per season after tax.

Moreover, a release clause, set at a formidable €130 million (£112 million), has been included in the contract. It is applicable exclusively to clubs outside of Italy during the summer transfer window.

Romano confirmed the details on social media, stating. “Victor Osimhen has signed a new deal at Napoli valid until June 2026 — now official. Release clause will be in the region of €130m. Done and sealed today.”

While the significant release clause may dissuade Premier League clubs from making a move in the upcoming January window, it looms as a potential trigger for a transfer during the close season.

Osimhen, despite pledging his future to Napoli, has not hidden his desire to play in the Premier League. In a podcast appearance earlier this season, he expressed his admiration for both Chelsea and Manchester United, stating, “Premier League is the most appreciated league by every African player — it’s a huge league.”

Napoli’s successful retention of Osimhen serves as a testament to their ambition and determination to retain top talent.

The Premier League’s allure remains strong, but for now, Osimhen is committed to leading Napoli’s charge as they seek to continue their dominance in Italian and European football.
