Wataru Endo could miss first six games for his new club

Wataru Endo

Liverpool have signed Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo in this window for a transfer fee of £20 million, as per reports.

The Athletic Journalist David Ornstein claims that the Japanese international has completed his medical for the Mersyside club yesterday. Endo is captain of both Japan International Team and VfB Stuttgart team.

Hence this means Wataru Endo will be out of action for his new club Liverpool. He will feature for Japan in upcoming Asian Games, which will be hosted in Hangzhou(China).

The 30-year-old midfielder has 50 international caps under his belt and he also featured in three of four matches in World Cup last year.

Liverpool. com discussed the issue and wrote(according to Transfermarkt):-

“Endo’s injury record is excellent — according to Transfermarkt, he’s only missed two games through injury since the start of the 2019/20 season — but he could be out for as many as six games for reasons beyond the Reds’ control. “

“With Endo set to arrive as the only specialist defensive midfielder in the squad, that’s a significant and sustained hole in the squad during a key period of a campaign in which Mohamed Salah is also set to be away at the Africa Cup of Nations. With that tournament running from January 13 to February 11, Liverpool could find itself without two key players for an extended period of time.

“This should only strengthen Liverpool’s determination to acquire another number six in addition to the Stuttgart man. Coming from a side that narrowly avoided relegation, he didn’t look like he had the credentials to solve the Reds’ problems on his own anyway. But now the club has another reason to pair him with a second defensive midfield signing. In an ideal world, he’d be the deputy behind a marquee arrival.
