The Daily Mail have reported that Premier League side West Ham United are lining up a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the summer transfer window.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek recently returned back into the Chelsea lineup after time on the sidelines due to an injury. The England international featured on the right side of a midfield three in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. He has made a total of 32 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded one goal and four assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel discussed the midfielder’s position at the club in a recent interview. Tuchel was very critical of the midfielder’s constant injury layoffs. But he also praised the England international’s ability. He said:
“He has everything it takes to play otherwise I would not count on him. But he has heard it for so many years. He has heard it too much.’ ‘He is still in the situation where he accepts limits too early. He is used to that and this is where we are. ‘We will keep on pushing. And hopefully he can produce more of these performances without being injured because this is another part of his story.”
West Ham United’s midfield situation
Declan Rice and Tomáš Souček have been the perfect pairing for the London side in recent times. Both the midfielders have formed a fantastic understanding in the middle of the park for the hammers. Club captain Mark Noble is set to retire at the end of the season after 16 years at the club. While Alex Kral looks set to return to his parent side Spartak Moscow at the end of the season.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek could provide quality backup for both Rice and Soucek in the middle of the park. The England midfielder is incredibly technically gifted and his eight also provides a threat in both the boxes. His size and stature would certainly tick a lot of boxes for David Moyes and West Ham United. There is also a chance that Declan Rice could secure a big-money move to any Premier League giants in the upcoming transfer windows. Ruben Loftus-Cheek would certainly be a good signing for the hammers.
But reports coming out of Stamford Bridge suggest that Thomas Tuchel is not interested in moving the 26-year-old. While Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also not keen to secure a move away from the blues in the summer transfer window.
