India recently won the ODI series against South Africa. Everyone is busy with the t20 world cup but the limelight will soon shift to 50 over the World Cup. VVS Laxman the stand-in coach of India for the South Africa Series told this. It will be difficult for the selectors to choose a well-settled 15-member squad for the world cup.

VVS Laxman on Indian team selection for 2023 WC

VVS Laxman statement:

” Have a good bunch of cricketers, they are all looking forward to the series, the competition between them is good, we are spoiled for choices considering the amount of talent we have. It’ll be difficult for the selectors to get the right team going into the 2023 50-over World Cup. All the youngsters are doing well, they know that they’ll not get too many opportunities once the main players return, but this is a chance to perform well and keep themselves in the hunt when the strongest side is being picked.”

India currently has a very strong bench strength. It has a pool containing a lot of new talents. t20si are played more often for 2 years. Moreover, there were 2 consecutive t20 World Cups too. So Indian team selectors conserved their main players for t20s and gave chances to new players in the ODI format. India is going to host the 50-over world cup next year. The cricketing world will soon shift to 50 over format.

BCCI soon have to figure it out the squad for the next 50 over the World Cup. The main players will too return to the side and they need to do justice to the new players too. VVS Laxman hinted at this. Many new players are being tried and tested in the ODI format in different series.
