Xhaka keen on returning to Germany in the summer

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka told his team-mates he’s keen on returning to Germany in the summer.

The Swiss midfielder joined Arsenal in 2016 from Borrusia Monchengladbach for a fee around £34m. Xhaka had his ups and downs in red and white and came close to returning to Germany twice.

Xhaka was keen on joining Hertha Berlin in 2020 following Arteta’s appointment. But the Spaniard convinced him to stay at Emirates.

Xhaka has been in fine form for Arsenal this season. But he has just 14 months remaining in his contract and rumours suggests he’s keen on returning to Germany.

Bayern Leverkusen are interested in signing Xhaka in the summer. Manager Xavi Alonso wants to add an “agressive leader” to his midfield. Meanwhile, GOAL says he informed his team-mates that he’d like to return to Bundesliga.

But the Bundesliga club will wait till 2024 to sign him on a free transfer rather than putting up a fee for him in the summer.

Arteta wants to keep Xhaka due to his leadership and flexibility in the midfield. However, Arsenal are keen on signing West Ham Star Declan Rice in the summer and that would squeeze his game-time at Emirates.

But Gunners are not ready to pay the hefty price tag of £120m and they value him closer to £70m. Arsenal also reigniting interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Seagulls won’t stand in the way this time.

With Arteta already hoping to bolster his midfield with new faces, Xhaka could be entering his final three games in North London.
