Alexander Isak has signed for Newcastle in a club-record £59 million transfer from Real Sociedad. The 22-year-old striker from Sweden has signed a long-term deal with the Magpies, with a contract till 2028. After scoring 44 goals in 132 games for Real Sociedad, he is set to be the new centre of their attack.
Newcastle have been on a spending spree under their new owners. Isak is the latest addition to their squad. The Swede was on the target for many Premier League clubs, but it was Newcastle who won the race for his signature.
The Magpies have Callum Wilson, who is a fantastic striker on his day. However, constant injuries have plagued him. Eddie Howe needs a reliable starter upfront, and Isak can provide that.
Isak said that he is “delighted” with the move. He expressed his admiration for Newcastle’s fan and football culture, and he was happy to be there.
I’m delighted to have it done. It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with. It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here.
Also, the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in. You always want to go into a team and know how they play. I think Newcastle play very attractive football and I want to be a part of that.

Eddie Howe on Isak
I’m very excited that Alexander [Isak] has chosen to join us. He is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team.
He is technically very good, with a mix of attributes that will complement us. But he is also at a great age to grow with this club. I want to thank the club’s owners and transfer committee for bringing Alexander to Newcastle. We are all delighted to have him on board.
