Allan Saint-Maximin Linked With A Move To Chelsea

Chelsea have made contact with Newcastle United to inquire about the availability of French winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Before the next season begins, head coach Thomas Tuchel wants to make more signings. The defence remains a priority, especially after the exits of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and potentially Cesar Azpilicueta.

However, due to their inconsistency last season, several of the club’s attacking players have been linked with exits. Raheem Sterling has been successfully signed, and now the Blues look toward more signings. Allan Saint-Maximin is one of the names that have been discussed, according to The Athletic.

Saint-Maximin has spent the last three seasons at St James’ Park. The Frenchman played 86 Premier League games and contributed 11 goals and 14 assists.

This is not a particularly high number, but it is important to remember that Newcastle were very negative during the Steve Bruce era. Saint-Maximin was a lone threat in that team, and often operated alone. Now, with the appointment of Eddie Howe and a number of new signings, the Magpies look much better. With a better and more cohesive squad, Saint-Maximin can see a rise in his end product.

Saint-Maximin: On The Move?

Newcastle will reportedly sell Saint-Maximin this window only for a sum greater than £40 million. The player is expected to stay on Tyneside for the 2022/23 campaign because he has four years left on his contract. Moreover, there hasn’t been any concrete interest so far in the winger.

Allan Saint-Maximin to Chelsea can be an unpredictable transfer. Although he is a joy to watch on some days, he can be quite ineffective on others. This inconsistency is exactly what has harmed Chelsea over the years. Nevertheless, if Tuchel can get a tune out of him, the Blues will have a serious player on their hands.
