Arsenal and Manchester United could have made a mutual transfer deal

Both Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek and Arsenal player Albert Sambi Lokonga wished to exit this transfer window. This would have been a great opportunity for both clubs to relieve themselves of their deadweight. However the circumstances have changed.

Man United added Donny van de Beek back during 2020 but did not make much use of him. The player participated in only a few matches and started in even fewer.

In fact, during three seasons with the club, the player only started at no more than six Premier league games. Moreover the player has suffered debilitating injuries despite his lack of play.

Albert Sambi is a similar case as well, as the 2021 singing never became a regular starter for the Gunners. The player was later loaned to Crystal Palace despite the quality he shown in his 34 Premier league games with the club.

The chance of a mutual transfer between Manchester United and Arsenal

Both clubs are sadly underutilizing their players which makes them, despite their quality, a burden. This is the case for most of Arsenal’s exiting players such as Balogun and Holding. As undeniable as their quality is, they simply have no place to fit in the current team, and are better off elsewhere.

This could have been an opportunity for both teams to handle the issue at hand with minimal costs and inconveniences. However, the context has now changed. It is confirmed that Luton Town loaned Albert Sambi, thus making the exchange impossible. This still is good news, as Sambi may finally find himself back on the field.

Still, van de Beek is yet to find a solution. Luton and Galatasaray have shown interest, but they haven’t taken any initiative. And with the window’s end in sight, the player may spend another season on the bench.
