Alan Shearer has recommended England, manager, to select Arsenal defender Ben White ahead of Harry Maguire. He has also said that White has to start games in the World Cup.
However, Shearer worries that Southgate will select Harry Maguire and start him in the tournament. The Manchester United defender is out of favor currently with the club.
THE CURRENT RISE OF THE FORM OF BEN WHITE WITH ARSENAL
Arsenal defender Ben White is currently one of the in-form defenders in the Premier League. His versatility also means that he can play in the center-back and right-back positions. However, currently, he is playing as a right-back for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta. This is not his favored position. However, the defender has performed brilliantly and cemented his place in the team.
Ben White’s brilliant form has also forced Arteta to change his tactics. Takheiro Tomiyasu now plays as a left-back instead of his favored right-back position. Tomiyasu has also adjusted perfectly to his new position. Hence, Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League table. Their versatilities have also given more squad depth for Mikel Arteta in the defence department this season.
ALAN SHEARER FEARS THE WORST FOR THE GUNNERS DEFENDER
Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer has said that he wants Ben White to be included in the England squad. However, he feels that Gareth Southgate will turn a blind side and select Harry Maguire. Although he has recommended that Gareth Southgate must look at the form of Ben White before selecting the final World Cup squad that goes to Qatar.
He further said,
“It’s form for Eric Dier, Luke Shaw, Trent Alexander-Arnold. Kieran Trippier must be one of the first defenders on the team sheet at the moment, while Ben White is full of belief at Arsenal, but there are some big calls to be made here.“
However, the toon legend has also said that it will not be a surprise if Southgate takes a big gamble and selects out-of-favor Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
Arsenal fans will hope that Ben White gets selected in the England squad. They will also hope that if he goes to Qatar, he can return without any injury. Many football experts have also clearly said that Ben White deserves to be part of England’s World Cup squad.
