Arsenal defender Takheiro Tomiyasu has said that he wants to spend some time away from playing football. These comments come after Japan’s elimination from the World Cup on penalties against Croatia in the round of 16.
Hence, it looks like this is another worry for Arteta and his coaching team. The first worry has already arrived with the major knee injury of their star striker Gabriel Jesus during the World Cup.
ARSENAL DEFENDER TAKHEIRO TOMIYASU WANTS TO TAKE A BREAK AFTER THE WORLD CUP HEARTBREAK
Arsenal defender Takheiro Tomiyasu suffered a World Cup heartbreak in the round of 16. This happened as Japan lost to Croatia in the round of 16 on penalties. Hence, the Japanese fans were left a little disappointed with their campaign. However, everybody appreciated the efforts of their national football team. They were also welcomed with flowers on their arrival from Qatar. However, it looks like defender Takheiro Tomiyasu is still disappointed with the loss against Croatia.
He also said that he will need to take a break from playing football to overcome the loss. Tomiyasu further said,
“It was not enough, we did not deserve to win,”.
“We were so close to achieving our aim. They were better than us. I can’t be proud, I am not satisfied about what happened. This is football and we need to be much, much better.“
”I don’t know [when I’ll go back],” he stated when asked when he will return to north London. “Hopefully I can get a bit of rest. I need time to forget about football. I need a bit of time.”
THE GUNNERS WILL HOPE TO HAVE THE JAPANESE DEFENDER BACK ON TIME FOR THEIR BOXING DAY MATCH
These comments by Tomiyasu are certainly going to worry Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal fans. However, both of them are ready to give the Japanese defender his time to recover from the disappointing loss. Although, they would like to have him available in their Premier League match against Leicester City. The match is a boxing day match. Hence, the Gunners will need all their first-team players to be mentally fit during the busy second half of the season.
They have already lost Gabriel Jesus due to his major knee injury. Hence, Mikel Arteta would love to have Takheiro Tomiyasu available in the match against the Foxes. The Japanese full-back is starting to get back in the starting line-up under Mikel Arteta. Hence, Mikel would love to have him available as an option. They currently play Ben White as the right-back. However, Arteta has opted for Tomiyasu as the left-back and he has done brilliantly for the Gunners.
Therefore, Arsenal fans will hope that his good form with the team continues in the remainder of the season. The Gunners are currently on the top of the Premier League table and have progressed to the knockout round of the Europa League. They will also have to participate in the FA Cup. Hence, they will need their squad depth including Takheiro Tomiyasu to tackle the packed schedule.
