Arsenal will reportedly make decisions on the futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe in the next summer transfer window. Both currently have their futures up in the air.
Gabriel Martinelli has only two years left on his contract. Whereas, the Gunners loaned out Nicolas Pepe this summer to give him regular game time.
THE LONG-TERM FUTURE OF GABRIEL MARTINELLI AT ARSENAL
According to reports, Arsenal are negotiating a contract extension with Gabriel Martinelli. However, they have yet not come to an agreement over the extension. Another problem is a number of European sides including Juventus are also monitoring the situation. Hence, the Gunners will have to quickly negotiate the contract extension of their young Brazilian star.
Martinelli is one of the first names on the team sheet. It is because he is very important to the style of the Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Therefore, Gabriel Martinelli wants a pay rise in the new contract extension. However, recent comments made by the player indicate that the talks are going in a positive direction. He said,” I want to stay at Arsenal, of course. We are talking [about a new deal], so let’s see what is going to happen, but I want to stay at Arsenal, of course.”
THE UNCERTAIN FUTURE OF NICOLAS PEPE AT THE CLUB
According to reports, the future of Nicolas Pepe is very uncertain. The French winger signed for a record 72 million fee from Lille. However, he could not get the engine started with the Premier League giants. Therefore, the player and the Gunners decided that it was best that he goes on loan. Therefore, the winger was loaned to Ligue 1 team OGC Nice.
The winger has made a brilliant start to his life with the French club. However, Mikel Arteta still has no intentions to keep the player at the club. This is irrespective of whether Martinelli accepts or rejects the contract extension. Therefore Edu and the hierarchy of the club will be hoping that Pepe’s form will start a bidding war between the interested clubs in the next summer transfer window.
Arsenal will be looking in the summer to resolve the futures of both players. They will be trying to keep the Brazilian at the club. However, they hope to sell the Frenchman permanently to recoup some of the 72 million fees paid to Lille.
