Aston Villa are looking to sign Southampton defender Jan Bednarek to replace the injured Diego Carlos. Villa are looking to sign a replacement for the injured defender who is out of the first half of the season due to an Achilles injury. However, things are looking well now for the Brazilian. He has undergone surgery and is recovering well. The Athletic has reported that there is no rush to replace the defender as of yet.

Carlos arrived at Villa park from Sevilla for a fee of £26 million. Carlos has established himself as an integral player for Aston Villa in his short time there. He was named as one of the to vice-captains alongside Martinez in the squad. However, the player suffered an injury in his second match in the Premier League. Now Aston Villa are looking to sign Jan Bednarek of Southampton as a potential replacement for the defender. Southampton are also ready to let the player leave this summer after signing six players in the window without selling a single player.

Villa manager provides update on Diego Carlos injury

Aston Villa manager Steve Gerrard believes that Carlos can still play a large chunk of the remaining matches in the Premier League. Providing an update, Gerrard said:

He’ll (Carlos) play again this season, for sure. We’re very confident of that. It’s very difficult to put a timeframe on this injury because the surgery in this situation – and in most cases – is pretty straightforward. The important bit is how the rehabilitation goes and you’ve got to hit your targets as you go along. [Rehabilitation] is the most important part of this injury rather than the surgery but, for sure, he’ll still play this season and he’ll have a big chunk of the season as well. I don’t want to put a month on it because it puts unnecessary pressure on our medical department which we don’t need right now.”
