According to several reports, Barcelona are thinking of a possibility to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial. The Catalans were interested in signing the Frenchman this summer but failed due to some reasons. But now with Manchester United giving green light to sell Anthony Martial, Barcelona can take on the chances.

Martial started his football career with Olympique Lyonnais and was later signed by AS Monaco in 2013. Playing for the Monaco side for two seasons, he appeared 70 times, scoring 15 goals and 8 assists. In 2015, Manchester United approached Monaco to sign Martial as they 36 million for the Frenchman. However, later the price rose up to 57 million due to different clauses.

Now staying for almost seven years with Manchester United, Anthony Martial has appeared 263 times scoring 78 goals and 50 assists in all competitions. And has lifted four titles with the red devils in his stay. While Martial was also United’s top scorer in the 2019/20 season with 23 goals to his name.

However, currently, the Frenchman is struggling for starting role in the team with the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho this season. Following which he has to be happy with cameo roles with late substitutions in the matches. And Anthony Martial is not at all happy with that desiring to leave the red devils. While United also have the same opinion about the Frenchman.

This summer he could return back to Lyon or had a transfer to Barcelona but both the deal failed due to some reasons. But now with Manchester United giving green light to sell Anthony Martial, reports say Barcelona could be bidding for him. However, the Frenchman’s £250k-a-week salary can be an issue in the transfer, with United wanting almost 50 million for Martial.

Why Barcelona needs Anthony Martial?

Barcelona have added three new forwards this summer which include names like Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, and Luuk de Jong. But among those three, two players seem to not have such an impact, Aguero and Luuk de Jong. The Argentine is out of selection after suffering an injury and will be back in November. While the Dutchman didn’t enjoy much success at Sevilla and finding hard to fit at Barcelona.

Following this, Barcelona are looking for another forward addition in January of in the next summer transfer window. And the Catalans seem to have found Anthony Martial for that role. However, we don’t know if Barcelona will want to shed out 50 million to sign an out-of-form forward. So, we have to wait and see if Barcelona would be targeting Martial or not.
