Barcelona defender Eric García has a slim chance to join Arsenal

Arsenal seems interested in signing Eric García this transfer window, but Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández finds the prospect troublesome.

The Gunners are in need of a defender after Jurriën Timber’s injury this month, a position nicely fit for García. The club has already contacted Barcelona concerning similar issues before. Indeed, the club’s former defender Laia Codina proved herself a valuable asset to Arsenal after Laura Wienroither’s injury.

The player’s time with Manchester City is another thing to keep in mind. Sources reference the player as a capable unit who can offer an adequate performance.

García himself seems adamant about leaving the club for a while. However, the player’s options are few and far between, with Girona and Arsenal being the most likely.

The player seems most interested in a brief loan, possibly for 1 year, this however is unlikely. As La Liga makes a loan deal this late into the current transfer window quite the hassle. A hassle that, for the most part, is not worth the effort.

García will likely not leave Barcelona for Arsenal

Despite both the Gunners and García’s interests, the player will most likely stay put.

With loan deals out of the equation, the defender’s only option is a permanent transfer deal. An option that has its own collection of difficulties.

Xavi confirmed that he will not be parting with the player. Any form of initiative will require a substantial offer, and with the options available on the market, such a premise seems farfetched.

In fact, there is yet to be a bid for the player, nor any suggested price.

And with the end of the window closing in, García is likely to remain on the Barcelona roster. Thus ending the rumors surrounding him once and for all.
