Barcelona Name Their Asking Price For Memphis Depay

Barcelona are willing to sell Memphis Depay after just one season. The addition of Robert Lewandowski and Raphina has made the Dutch international redundant. The Blaugrana demand €20 million for his sale.

Memphis Depay is likely one of a number of players at Camp Nou who are facing an uncertain future. During the current preseason trip in the US, Xavi reportedly spoke with the Dutchman, according to a story from Diario AS. He has suggested that Depay depart from Camp Nou in the summer or play the entire 2022–23 season as a benchwarmer.

As he explained to Depay his diminished position in the team due to the addition of Lewandowski and Raphinha, Xavi was fairly direct with him. Given that the attacker’s contract expires at the end of the upcoming season, they may appear flexible despite expecting to receive roughly €20 million.

If no suitable offer comes forward, Depay may end up staying at the Nou Camp and go for free next year. Hence, Barcelona may have some wiggle room in their valuation to facilitate a sale.

Possible Destinations For Depay

A number of Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the former Lyon attacker. Tottenham Hotspur were one of the interested parties, but game time may be a factor there. It will be difficult for Depay to break into the trio of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski.

Manchester United are another club that has been mentioned. However, it is unclear if the Dutchman will accept a move to Old Trafford. He had previously left on bad terms in 2017.

It is rather sad to see Depay being forced through the door after just one season. He was brought in by Ronald Koeman, and the striker had a decent return. He got injured towards the end of the season, but still had 12 goals.

However, it is unlikely that he will get minutes after the acquisition of Lewandowski. A move away may be the best move for all parties.
