He will wear the number four shirt this season. The defender will now help the club defend its league title. He has been described as a player for the future by the owners.
BAYERN MUNICH AND MATTHIJS DE LIGT TRANSFER SAGA FULL STORY
The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City were linked with a move for the Dutch defender. However, Bayern have won the race for his signature. De Ligt becomes Julian Nagelsmann’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga giants have already signed Sadio Mane, Noussair Mazraoui, and Ryan Gravenberch. Although, the club have also confirmed the sale of Lewandoski to Barcelona.
Speaking to the club’s official website on his arrival in Baravia, De Ligt said: “I am very happy to become a player of this great club. FC Bayern is the most successful club in Germany, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and the world. I am very happy that I am now part of the history of FC Bayern.”
BAYERN MUNICH ARE ALSO VERY HAPPY WITH THE SIGNING OF THE DEFENDER
Bayern’s CEO also is very happy with the signing. He said that the center-back is one of the top players in football. He further adds that he leads the way in all his teams. Sports Director Hasan Salihamzdic is also very happy to get the deal over the line. He says De Ligt fits in with the team and the ambitions of the club. The director further added that he can play an important role at FC Bayern on and off the pitch.
Matthijs De Ligt could make his competitive debut for Bayern against RB Leipzeg in DFL Supercup on July 30. The defender had two years left on his Juventus contract. However, he decided to leave the club this summer. The Dutch defender has already won the Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Italia in his three years at the club. He also scored eight goals for the Italian giants.
This is set to be a big loss for Juventus. However, the club have allegedly found his replacement. According to reports, the Old Lady have reached an agreement with Torino to sign Gleison Bremer for 40m plus add-ons. They have reportedly beaten the likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan for his signature.
