TZ reports that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City. However, as we have earlier reported that Arsenal too has shown interest in signing the German. Gundogan was instrumental in winning the trophy for City in their last match against Aston Villa. He scored a crucial late goal to secure all three points and win the trophy.

However, now Gundogan’s future looks uncertain. The 31-year-old midfielder’s contract ends in June 2023. However, the City management have communicated their decision not to extend his contract. City are willing to sell the German for only £17million.

Gundogan did not have a great campaign with City this season. He had been rattled by injuries that kept him out for most of the campaign. Still, he started for 20 games out of the 38 that City played in the Premier League. Moreover, in the 43 appearances that he made across all competitions, he scored 10 goals while giving six assists. This was not at par with his previous season’s performance. The previous season he had scored 17 goals.

Bayern Munich could give a good competition to Arsenal for signing Gundogan

Mikel Arteta should not be pleased about the German powerhouses entering the competition. Bayern are the greatest side in the Bundesliga. Moreover, as Gundogan ages he might want to move back to his hometown.

On the other hand, he might not want to spoil his reputation among the Dortmund supporters by joining their rivals. Gundogan played for Dortmund from 2011 to 2016. During which he made 157 appearances for the club.

Incidentally, he also scored in a Champions League final against Bayern Munich. Arsenal are now bound to face stiff competition from Bayern. Moreover, Bayern can offer Gundogan Champions League football for next season.
