Ben Davies joins the Blades on loan from Liverpool

Centre-half Ben Davies has left Liverpool for Sheffield United on a season-long loan. Davies departs after just over six months on Merseyside. The 26-year-old agreed a switch to Sheffield for the rest of the campaign.

He becomes the Blades’ first signing since new management took over at Bramall Lane. “I’m really happy to be here,” said Davies. “I always liked playing against Sheffield United and the atmosphere.

There will, however, be no option for Sheffield United to make the move permanent. The deal sees Liverpool recover their initial £500,000 outlay upon signing Ben Davies from Preston. They will obtain another £500,000 if Sheffield United secure promotion.

Hopefully I can fit into the manager’s plans well,” he continued. “I’ve missed match days and the buzz of having fans in grounds.

Ben Davies Out of Order

The ex-Preston North End defender arrived at Anfield in January alongside Ozan Kabak. The two were to cover for the injured Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip.

However, Davies failed to make an impact. He was dealing with his own injury problems. The 26-year-old is yet to make a single competitive appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Davies’ career receives a much needed boost with the move to Bramall Lane.

It was a predictable move for a player not banked on to make his debut for the club amidst an injury crisis. Davies’ only outings for the first team came in pre-season friendlies against Wacker Innsbruck and Osasuna.

A move to Bramall Lane gives Ben Davies an opportunity to play again. Speaking to SUTV, he explains his decision :

It’s a move that you can never turn down. It was really exciting,” the centre-back reflected. The Englishman praised Liverpool’s internal setup, terming it as “incredible”. He continued saying that he was optimistic about going out on loan and hopefully getting some game time under his belt. Davies needs to experience that competitive edge once more.

Liverpool scouts will be keeping an eye on Davies at the Blades. There is a possibility he returns for pre-season again next summer. Meanwhile, the fans would get an opportunity to finally see him play.
