Burnley vs Liverpool: Match preview, team news, and predicted lineups

tennis player

Burnley will be hosting Liverpool on Sunday. This fixture will take place at 7:30 pm IST at Turf Moor. Burnley will play their 21st match of the league while Liverpool will play their 24th match of the league. Liverpool wants to close the gap to Manchester City while Burnley sits in the relegation zone having played the least number of games due to COVID.

Burnley have the most number of games in hand, however, they do not seem to take advantage of it. They are now in the relegation zone and could get out of it if they use these games in hand as an advantage. If they fail to do so then they will be stuck in the relegation zone and getting out of it will be tougher having transferred out a few players to rivals.

Burnley Premier League Form: L L D D D

Liverpool looks unstoppable currently and they barely lost any points even with the absence of Salah and Mane. However, both of them will be joining the club which will make them even stronger. The Reds have the momentum on their side which makes them the favorites in the game. Their recent dominant victory against Leicester must have boosted their confidence.

Team News

Burnley vs Liverpool: The Clarets team news

Maxwel Cornet was forced off due to a thigh injury against Manchester United. However, he should be okay to face Liverpool. Charlie Taylor is almost recovered from his ankle injury but will not be risked to play against Liverpool. Erik Pieters’ performance in midweek will assure Sean Dyche that Taylor should be rested.

Moreover, Matej Vydra and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are also not available for Burnley against Liverpool. If Cornet starts, then he would start on the left while allowing Weghorst and Rodriguez to play up top.

Burnley possible starting lineup

Nick Pope; Connor Roberts, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski, Erik Pieters; Dwight McNeil, Ashley Westwood, Josh Brownhill, Maxwel Cornet; Wout Weghorst, Jay Rodriguez

Mohamed Salah has returned from his AFCON duties and was welcomed with loud cheers from all over the Stadium. Klopp has confirmed that Sadio Mane will also be available to play against Burnley. Jordan Henderson will also return against Burnley despite the back issues he has been facing lately.

Klopp has also confirmed that Joe Gomez and Divock Origi did not feature in midweek as it was part of the plan. The German manager might make a few changes to the squad before facing Inter Milan as he also has Harvey Elliot and Oxlade-Chamberlain to play in the center of the back.

Liverpool possible starting lineup

Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil Van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Harvey Elliott, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson; Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz

Our Predicitions

Burnley 0-3 Liverpool

Burnley have the pressure to use the games in hand to their advantage. However, Burnley are finding it hard to score and Liverpool have many positives right now. Salah and Mane’s return along with a good debut from Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota’s winning streak might favor Jurgen Klopp’s men and traveling fans might have the last shout.
