Chelsea advances its negotiations with Arsenal for striker Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun

Chelsea and Arsenal are nearing the end of their negotiations, as the Blues agree to pay £50 million for Balogun. Thus confirming earlier speculations.

The young striker was very appealing this season, attracting the interest of many highly appraised clubs. The most notable examples are Monaco, Inter Milan, and the current topic of discussion, Chelsea. Said interest stemmed from the 22 year old’s stunning performance during the Ligue 1.

While loaned to Reims, the player scored a total of 27 goals during his 37 games. The young athlete proved himself as vital cornerstone for the team and one of the reasons they reached 8th place in the Ligue 1. This performance subsequently justified Balogun’s current price tag.

Nevertheless, the player £50 million asking price proved too steep for most. As Inter Milan immediately lost interest and opted to search elsewhere. On the other hand, both Monaco and Chelsea pondered the possibility, with the latter taking the initiative.

Furthermore, Les Rouge et Blanc did not have a chance to begin with. The player expressed his desire to join the giants of the Premier league, Thus giving the Blues a massive advantage. In addition, recent news suggests Chelsea met Balogun’s personal terms.

Why the Arsenal asking price did not stop Chelsea from signing Balogun

£50 million may be too much for the Blues budget, especially with more transfers seemingly underway. Yet Pochettino is certain that the player’s signing is a must.

The team is currently quite lacking offensively, with Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja still injured. This weakness has already cost them as seen by their recent loss against West Ham. With all these factors in perspective, Pochettino’s point does stand.

Some fans fear the player may preform poorly after leaving Arsenal, but as his achievements with Reims show, Balogun will likely adapt to Chelsea very easily.
