Chelsea could reportedly move for Frenkie De Jong if his move to Manchester United collapses. Erik Ten Hag reportedly wants to reunite with the Dutchman.

De Jong has been Manchester United’s primary target for the entire window so far. Although, United are struggling to agree a fee with Barcelona.

According to reports, Manchester United have reached a broad agreement with the Catalan side for the sale of De Jong. The fee is set to cost Red Devils €65m (£56.2m) plus performance-related add-ons.The deal is not yet finalized. Frenkie De Jong is yet to agree personal terms with Manchester United. There are also suggestions that he does not want to leave Barcelona.

It appears Chelsea are set to enter the race for the midfielder. The report also claims Barcelona are ready to deal with any side as long as they get a good fee for the Dutchman. Manchester United are currently unable to offer Champions League football. However, it seems Chelsea who will be in the Champions League could take advantage of De Jong’s yearning for the competition.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly an admirer of De Jong. The Blues face an uncertain midfield situation heading into the new season. Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have both entered the final 12 months of their contracts. Saul has returned to Athletico Madrid.

Conor Gallagher is to compete for opportunities in the engine room. De Jong could also present a cheaper alternative to Declan Rice. Although, Tuchel is currently attempting to wrap up deals for Raheem Sterling and Raphinha. However, if Chelsea enters the race for the Dutch midfielder it will be interesting to see which club de Jong ends at.

The Netherlands international has 13 goals and 17 assists in 139 appearances for Barcelona so far. This includes four goals and five assists in 46 appearances from last season. De Jong has only won one Copa-del Rey trophy during his time at Barcelona. The Catalan giants have a ready-made replacement in the form of Franck Kessie who is set to join Barcelona on a free transfer.
