CHELSEA-RAHEEM STERLING TRANSFER SAGA FULL STORY

The 27-year-old’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium is uncertain. The attacker will be soon entering the final year of his contract. The competition for places has also intensified following the arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. Therefore, Manchester City are open to sell Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling. Arsenal are currently in advanced talks to sign Jesus. Whereas, Premier League rivals Chelsea have stepped up their efforts to sign Raheem Sterling. It is set to happen as Romelu Lukaku is set to return to Inter Milan.

FIRST BID ALREADY REJECTED BY MANCHESTER CITY FOR STERLING

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea regards Sterling as their main target for this summer transfer window. The report also adds they have seen an opening offer already rejected by the Premer League champions. The offer was believed to be €25m (£21.4m) plus add-ons, however, it was deemed below the valuation by City. Although, Chelsea are already planning to make a second bid for Raheem Sterling. This is due to City’s willingness to sell the player. Manchester City values the forward between €55m (£47.1m) and €60m (£51.4m).

The Premier League Champions would then like to use these funds to sign Brighton’s Marc Cucurella and Leeds United’s Kalvin Philips. Chelsea are also believed to be interested in signing Sterling’s teammate Nathan Ake. The defender has already spent at the West London’s club academy. He also made 17 senior appearances before leaving Stamford Bridge in 2017.

Since joining Citizens from Liverpool in 2015, Sterling has scored 131 goals and provided 95 assists in 329 games across all competitions. He also has won a total of 12 trophies during his career at City. But in the last couple of seasons, Sterling’s role in important matches has reduced to coming off the bench. Also, with the further arrivals of Haaland and Julian Alvarez, Sterling’s chances of starting have even gotten less.
