Christian Eriksen Will Be Breaking A Promise When He Joins Manchester United

Christian Eriksen has reportedly agreed on terms with Manchester United for a 3-year-deal. However, in doing so, he has broken a promise that he made a few years ago.

Before leaving for Milan, Eriksen made a commitment to the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that he would never play for another Premier League club.

The midfielder had a superb 7-year tenure at Tottenham. Eriksen joined from Ajax in 2013 as a young protege. He made 305 appearances for the Lilliywhites, scoring 69 goals and registering 90 assists. Eriksen had superb vision and was a threat from range. He formed a dynamic front four alongside Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli under Mauricio Pochettino. It is fair to say that Spurs fans will remember him fondly.

Christian Eriksen After His Spell At Tottenham

After the Champions League final defeat in 2019, he switched allegiances to Inter Milan during the 2020 January transfer window. At Euro 2020 18 months later, Eriksen experienced a frightening on-field heart attack.

However, against all odds, six months later Brentford gave Eriksen the chance to demonstrate that he could still compete at the highest level of the game. Even though the midfielder had a defibrillator installed, he returned to action. Eriksen was unquestionably their best player in the second half of the season. Although he technically broke his above-mentioned promise, Spurs fans did understand the circumstances. He was cheered on loudly when Brentford faced Tottenham last season.

However, unlike Brentford, seeing their beloved number 23 in United colours will be a sore sight for Tottenham fans.

Both Spurs and Brentford were interested in signing Eriksen. But the Red Devils were the ones who won the race for him. This will not be the easiest pill to swallow for some fans, especially Daniel Levy. Some outrage was seen on Twitter as well.
