Jamie Carragher have commented on how he cannot believe that Liverpool signed Cody Gakpo. The former Liverpool player believes that signing Cody Gakpo was a mistake. Furthermore, he believes that Liverpool made a mistake signing the player from PSV this January window. Liverpool brought Gakpo from PSV last month in the January transfer window. Liverpool brought the player for about a £35 million transfer fee. And Cody Gakpo is earning £120,000 per week as a salary at Liverpool. However, Gakpo have not yet scored a goal or provided an assist for the team. So far he has made three appearances for the Reds in the FA Cup. His performances so far have been underwhelming. This has made many fans question his abilities and Liverpool’s decision to sign him.

Jamie Carragher shares his opinion on Cody Gakpo

Jamie Carragher believes that the Reds made a mistake by signing him. He is apparently baffled by Gakpo’s performances so far. Carragher shared his opinion,

“In attack, Díaz started his Liverpool brilliantly but Núñez is a work in progress, and I am baffled watching Gakpo’s early performances. Gakpo is not a typical Klopp signing, lacking lightning pace and the capacity to lead a high press.”

He further added,

“Why commit up to £45 million on someone who will be on the bench when Díaz and Diogo Jota are fit? Especially when another area of the team needed strengthening?”

Liverpool fans are questioning why they signed Cody Gakpo after they signed Nunez last summer. However one should not forget that Gakpo is one of Europe’s promising youngsters. He is still pretty young and have a lot to learn.

With Mohammed Salah not getting any younger and Roberto Firmino not being in his best form, it is Cody Gakpo that the club would look for performance. Furthermore, he joined a new league recently, therefore, he would need some time to adjust. Hence the fans might have to wait a bit to watch Gakpo blossom fully.
