David de Gea Blasts Manchester United Teammates After Loss

Manchester United ended their dismal season with a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace. It was certainly not a good first impression for the players in front of incoming manager Erik Ten Hag.

Manchester United were missing a number of key players, and finished the season with 58 points. This is is their lowest tally in the Premier League era. On top of that, they had the added embarrassment of watching their two bitter rivals Manchester City and Liverpool battle it out for the Premier League title.

Speaking after the game, goalkeeper David de Gea had some harsh words for his teammates. He said that the performances were not “enough to win a Premier League match”. It is safe to say that the Spanish shot-stopper was annoyed by the lack of commitment among members of the squad. Speaking to MUTV after the game, de Gea said:

I just want to be positive, to forget about this season. The new manager [Erik ten Hag] was in the stands, so that’s a good signal. I hope things will get better for next season – that’s the past already. We all know it’s been a bad season, for everyone. The people who don’t want to stay, just go, and the people who really want to stay at the club, who want to fight for the club, let’s have a good rest in the summer, prepare ourselves in the mind and in the body and be ready to fight again next season”

overall look at Manchester United performance this season

Truly, it has been a horrendous season for the Red Devils. It started with a lot of promise with the blockbuster signing of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane. The fabled return of Cristiano Ronaldo prompted much fanfare too, but the early season optimism faded quickly.

Old Trafford looks toward an uncertain future. There is reason for hope though, as Ten Hag has proven his calibre for working with young talents and developing them. They will hope that they can put this season behind them and return to winning ways next season.
