David Moyes explains why he finished Michail Antonio as the first choice for West Ham United squad

West Ham United boss David Moyes explains why he dropped Michail Antonio from fist team squad. Moyes also said that Antonio must have the courage of his convictions. The Hammers signed him from Nottingham Forest for just £7.5m back in 2015. Since then, he has been an excellent servant of the London Stadium. Moreover, he has played in all sorts of position and scored some memorable goals. However, it seems that the striker has had his time at Premier League. He has been ineffective this season so far without a goal since August.

Consequently, Moyes started Bowen up front supported by Mohammad Kudus and Benrahma. Eventually, Hammers pulled out a mesmerizing 3-1 victory out of Arsenal while looking much fluid and dynamic. Even the manager said so himself in the post-match conference. David Moyes revealed the situation of Antonio ahead of clash with Brentford. He said,

“I’m loathe to say he’s (Bowen) suddenly a No9 because we might need him to play No7 and do the job that he’s doing there. But in time I see it changing for Jarrod, I really do.

Hopefully, people would have seen my thoughts over a few months. I actually think Freiburg was probably the night, he was terrific that night in Freiburg and I think that made me feel it.

We had a bit of a blip after the international break but the game (against Arsenal) the other night got us back on track. And the performance, more importantly, from the likes of Mo and Jarrod and (Lucas) Paqueta got us thinking there are other solutions to what we’ve got here.”

However, the Hammers were beaten by 3-2 after taking the lead. Moreover, it feels that Michail’s time in English league is over and he must look to move on from here.
