European Clubs Beware: Saudi Pro League’s £17 Billion Transfer Budget Targets Top Superstars

The Saudi Pro League, backed by a staggering £17 billion transfer budget over seven years, has been making waves in the football world by acquiring top talent from Europe’s elite clubs. This massive financial muscle has already enticed the likes of Roberto Firmino, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante to make lucrative moves to Saudi clubs, leaving their previous salaries far behind.

£17 Billion Transfer Budget – A Prolonged Ambition

The league’s latest target is none other than Kylian Mbappe, widely regarded as one of the best players in the world. Al Hilal has successfully bid £259 million to PSG for the French superstar. A deal that could potentially set a new transfer record.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, the Saudi Pro League has allocated a jaw-dropping £17 billion to spend on transfers until 2030. The league’s ambition doesn’t stop at Mbappe; it also aims to sign football superstars like Neymar and Luka Modric, with Robert Lewandowski on their radar for 2024. This unprecedented budget opens up a world of possibilities for the league. It may further impact top European clubs in the coming years.

Liverpool’s Dilemma

The massive spending spree by Saudi Pro League clubs has already piqued the interest of Liverpool’s stars. Jordan Henderson completed a medical at Al Ettifaq, and Fabinho was in talks with Al Ittihad.

Among Liverpool’s key players, Mohamed Salah’s future remains uncertain. Qatar-based outlet Alkass reported that clubs are interested in Salah. However, the Egyptian forward has expressed his contentment at Anfield on social media. Additionally, Salah’s contract will expire next summer, which might prompt Saudi Pro League clubs to pursue the prolific scorer vigorously.

Furthermore, the prospect of losing a world-class player like Mohamed Salah is a major concern for Liverpool. As one of the most elite footballers globally, Salah’s presence has been pivotal to the club’s success. If the Saudi Pro League continues its aggressive spending spree every summer, Liverpool may face a difficult choice next year. They could either sell Salah and benefit from a part of the £17 billion budget or attempt to persuade him to extend his contract.
