LIVERPOOL

Fabio Carvalho: The latest gamble of Liverpool, Jury still out

Liverpool Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool signed Fabio Carvalho for a reported fee of £5 million, potentially rising to £7.7 million with add-ons in the summer of 2022. Carvalho enjoyed a prolific last season with Fulham with 10 goals and 8 assists helping his side earn a promotion to the Premier League owing to his performances he won a lot of accolades including EFL Young Player of the Month for August 2021.

Great Beginnings at Liverpool

Fabio Carvalho had a great start to his Liverpool career scoring his first Liverpool goal scoring a thumping volley in a 9-0 thumping win over A.F.C. Bournemouth and then netting an injury-time winner against Newcastle four days later at Anfield. However, with the team struggling, Carvalho’s form also took a dip and has since been struggling for minutes on the pitch. With Liverpool also out of the Carabao Cup it is difficult to see where he would get the required minutes for his development.

The Hope

Carvalho has netted three times for the Merseyside outfit already, including a neat finish in the carabao cup tie against Manchester City, the talent is there, the issue is his minutes and if the history of the style of Jurgen Klopp’s Management is to go by, Klopp has always given new signings time to settle down and adapt to his tactics and game plan, it took Andrew Robertson half a season to get regular game time. Hope would be that Carvalho’s career trajectory would also be the same as Robertson as Liverpool does have an unpolished diamond in their hands, It would be disheartening to see if Carvalho is not able to make his long-term future here at Anfield.
