The Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag, wants to sign Barcelona’s midfielder, Frenkie De Jong this summer. Ten Hag was keen on a reunion with the Ajax star in 2022. However, De Jong did not discuss the terms despite the several rounds of negotiation that took place. Manchester United could place their offer for the midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. Additionally, Barcelona are looking to sign Joshua Kimmich, which could pave the way for De Jong’s exit. Moreover, Ten Hag is still inclined towards sending a fresh proposal for the midfielder. However, there is no indication of Frenkie de Jong considering a move away from Barcelona. Additionally, the Barcelona manager is happy with the Netherlands international.
While speaking about De Jong, Xavi said
“He is a fundamental footballer, very important for me, absolutely nothing changes. Frenkie has had the misfortune of having three ankle injuries and it is a shame because he was at a very high level before getting injured.”
The Barcelona manager further added,
“I want him to renew and now it depends on him. He knows my position. He can help us a lot. I hope he renews.”
Therefore, a move to Old Trafford for De Jong will be difficult as the midfielder might extend his stay at Barcelona.
Manchester United want to offload a few players this summer
The new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, wants to reduce the wage bill and therefore, a move for De Jong is unlikely to take place. The midfielder’s demands will break Manchester United’s wage structure. However, a major squad change is likely to take place under Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Additionally, Antony and Casemiro could exit Old Trafford after this disappointing campaign. However, the Red Devils can change their fate if they manage to win the FA Cup. Manchester United will face Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup finals. Although Man City are the favorites to win, the Red Devils cannot be underestimated. A win for Man United could be a ray of hope in this devastating season.
