Liverpool back four were questioned by Gary Neville

Liverpool

This Saturday, Liverpool played one of the worst games of the season. The Reds lost 3:0 against Wolves at Molineux.

For the first time, Jurgen Klopp is seen struggling with his squad and looks in deep trouble. The German manager lost 3 consecutive matches in the Premier League as their backline looked completely lost. Van Dijk’s absence is causing big trouble for the Reds. And rubbing more salt to the wound, the front three also looked completely harmless.

Examining Reds concern, Gary Neville called out the Club’s back-four for their extremely poor performance against Wolves. He further stated(via Sky Sports):-

They’re nowhere near, it was almost a ‘where do they start’ type of reaction after the game,”

There are internationals in that back four – in fact, all of them are – and they’re nowhere near good enough.

“There’s absolutely no excuse for that. There are other teams who have had injuries defensively who have managed better.”

Konate joining Van Dijk on the injury bench has made Liverpool life more miserable. Frenchman was very crucial for his team after Virgil’s injury. Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice CB pairing getting injured has left him with only Matip and Gomes.

Joel Matip can be considered as one of the most underrated defender in the world whereas Joe Gomes also thrived in previous seasons. But both of them don’t make a good CB pairing considering their latest defeat.

These are extremely worrying signs for Liverpool and might need some serious changes in their setup. It’s quite evident that Liverpool needs to offload some of their stars and recruit some new faces in the summer transfer window.
