Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has said that City can’t rely on Haaland single-handedly inning them the Champions League. This statement comes in the light of a string of brilliant performances from Haaland. Haaland arrived at Manchester City from Dortmund for a fee of 51 million pounds. Since his arrival, Haaland has scored 10 goals in his first six matches in the Premier League.

Haaland was the marquee player for Manchester City this season. City has also brought in Julian Alvarez and Manuel Akanji, Sergio Gomez, and Calvert Lewin to strengthen their squad. However, Guardiola has stressed that Manchester City cannot rely upon Haaland alone to in them every match or even the Champions League itself. In the pre-match conference of the match against Sevilla, Guardiola said:

“All the players who come here were brought here by the club to make us better, that makes sense. If we rely on Erling’s shoulders, we will not win the Champions League”

Speaking on why Haaland joined Manchester City and how he is settling within the squad, Guardiola said:

“Erling came here because we convinced him. We didn’t have strikers and he felt he could play with us. He has settled well, like with Julian and the other new players. I understand completely why everyone is talking about Erling but I have six new players and I want them to settle as quickly as possible. We won’t win just because of Erling but he has a special talent, and he can help us solve problems, definitely. But if we don’t play well, we will not win”

Haaland scores twice against Sevilla

Erling Haaland continued his amazing form against Sevilla by scoring two goals against them. His first goal in the 20th minute came from an assist from Kevin De Bruyne. His second came after he pounced on a weakly cleared ball off of a strike from Phil Foden. Ruben Dias and Phil Foden also scored once to give City a comfortable 4-0 victory over their opposition Sevilla.
