Harry Kane is still restless at Tottenham

Centre-forward Harry Kane still feels unsettled at Tottenham Hotspur. He reportedly wants to make a move to the Etihad this summer.

The Englishman was not part of the squad that beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday. New coach Nuno Espirito Santo declared that Kane was not up to full fitness.

In an interview with Gary Neville pre-Euro 2020, Kane quoted :

I don’t want to come to the end of my career and have any regrets. So I want to be the best that I can be. I can even be better than what I’ve been at the moment. My aim is to be winning trophies season in and season out.

Kane looking past Tottenham

Harry Kane came through Tottenham Hotspur’s academy at age 11. He sports the captain’s armband, has been the team’s best player and top scorer for the last seven seasons. His possesses a reputation as a model pro, that has led to his emergence as the English national team captain.

Kane is also well-compensated for all that. He signed a six-year deal with the club in 2018 that gives him a reported £120,000 a week (including bonuses). He still has 3 years left on his current deal.

However, there are no Champions League prospects and the future seems bleak. Rivals Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are clearly a cut above Spurs.

Now, the 28-year-old is running out of time in his career to win trophies. With Spurs in a “rebuilding phase,” according to Kane, he feels a move away is the best option.

On the flip side, Manchester City continue to forge ahead in their bid to acquire Kane despite repeated denials from Spurs. The Citizens have just over two weeks to get the deal before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

Tottenham value Kane at around £150,000,000. City have suggested they will not meet the asking price for his rights. Yet, sources have told ESPN they would be willing to break the British transfer record once again this summer.

Guardiola’s side could go as high as £120,000,000 plus add-ons for Kane. Nonetheless, there has been little encouragement from Spurs regarding acceptance of such an offer so far.

Kane boasted impressive form at club level during the 2020-21 campaign. He bagged 33 goals and assisted another 17 in 49 appearances in all competitions. For England, he netted 4 times in 7 outings at Euro 2020. Only time will tell whether Kane remains a Lilywhite or joins Pep at the Etihad.
