IPL 23: Aakash Chopra shares his opinion on workload

Delhi

IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on 31st March in Ahmadabad. The first match is between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. This year will also have 74 matches. Mumbai Indians to start their campaign against RCB in Bangalore. Bumrah is yet to get clearance from NCA, to be fit to play.

World Cup 2023 and World Test Champions in the same year, it is a great risk to play 14 matches straight away after coming back from injury. Bumrah is a great asset to the whole nation but risking him for IPL will be the craziest thing to do.

Aakash Chopra wants MI to rest Bumrah in IPL

“You’re an Indian player first and then you play for your franchise. So if Bumrah feels any discomfort, the BCCI will step in and tell the franchise that we are not going to release him. The world won’t end if he doesn’t play seven games with Jofra Archer.”

He further added on IPL that

“At the same time, when you’re fit, you want to keep on playing as that only makes you better. So I definitely feel MI will pay heed to it if BCCI steps in because he is a national treasure and things aren’t as difficult to manage as they seem to be at the moment.”

On whether he will play red ball before WTC final he added,

If he is fit, he will go and play those games (Irani Trophy and County cricket). But the Indian Premier League is still a month away and we don’t even know if he will play all games. The WTC final is three months away. So it’s too early to say anything.”

It is expected that BCCI will manage the workload of Jasprit Bumrah during the Indian Premier League 2023. He might rest in a few games.
