Wilfried Zaha is considering a return to the Premier League with West Ham. The Hammers have decided to part ways with David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui is expected to take the reigns.
Lopetegui has identified Zaha as a primary target for the Hammers. The Ivorian is no stranger to the lightning pace of the league and has found the net 68 times already in the league. However, it has been reported that Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are also keen for Zaha move.
Villa and West Ham could well be caught in a bidding war over the talented winger. The 31-year old left Crystal Palace on a free transfer last season and has failed to establish himself in Turkey. Zaha is looking forward to playing regular European football and has been heavily speculated of a Premier League return.
Zaha unsettled at Galatasaray?
Wilfried Zaha is reportedly unsettled at Galatasaray and has met with the owners to convince them for sanctioning his move in the summer transfer window. The Ivorian has made only four appearances for Galatasaray since March.
Galatasaray could be open to making profit on Zaha’s sale, having signed him for free. However, no particular price has yet been disclosed for the winger.
Wilfried Zaha to West Ham: A Duel with the Villains
While West Ham are frontrunners for the Ivorian’s signature, Villa haven’t yet thrown in the towel. Both the Hammers’ and Villa’s representatives have met with Zaha’s camp in talks about a potential move.
The Ivorian is keen to make his mark in European competitions. Aston Villa’s contention for a Champions League place could very well sway away the winger, giving him a chance to impress amongst the European elites.
Who will land the Ivorian?
Nothing can be said with certainty. Galatasaray could well decide not to let the winger leave having played just one year of his three years contract.
Lopetegui certainly has Zaha in his plans. But, the Hammers currently sit on 8th at the league table and therefore are not at a pole position for qualifying for European football.
Emery and Villa will put on a fight. Their Champions League qualification hopes may help them land Zaha. But, ultimately it will be the Ivorian’s decision.
