Ismaila Sarr on the radar of Leeds United

Leeds United have earmarked Ismaila Sarr as a replacement for Raphina. The Brazilian left for FC Barcelona this window.

Leeds had a difficult season last time out. Coming on the back of an impressive 2020/21 campaign, people expected them to perform well again. However, second-season syndrome hit them hard. They were in a relegation battle in the second half of the season and secured PL status on the final day.

They bid farewell to Marcelo Bielsa, who brought them to the top division after more than a decade. American manager Jesse Marsch replaced him and helped the Yorkshire outfit retain top-flight status.

Now he will hope that they can avoid last season’s form. It will be imperative for them to replace the outgoing Kalvin Phillips and Raphina. As for the latter, they are looking towards Senegalese star Ismaila Sarr.

The Watford man has been one of Watford’s best players in recent years. He scored 10 goals and registered 6 assists in his last 2 seasons in the top flight. Sarr is extremely gifted, and perhaps too good for the Championship. He might be looking to take a step up to the Premier League after Watford’s relegation last season.

Sarr: A good deal for Leeds?

Foot Mercato claim that Leeds are in the running for Sarr. It is said that he is quite tempted by the transfer. Watford have set a price of €35 million on Sarr. The winger has a contract until 2025, so it will not be easy to tempt him away from Vicarage Road.

In case the deal falls through, Leeds have lined up some alternatives. One of the names on the list is PSV starlet Cody Gakpo. However, he won’t be easy to sign either, with Arsenal lurking. His price is quite steep as well; PSV want €30 million to part with him.
